Mr Kefas Ropshik, the foundation’s founder, said the renovation and equipping of the unit were done in honour of his late mother, Mama Rhoda Danladi.
Ropshik said at the inauguration/handing over of the unit on Friday in Jos that it was a means of enhancing prompt and qualitative healthcare at the unit.
According to him, the experience of seeing his mother’s health decline due to inadequate facilities, despite the availability of hard-working medical professionals in the institution, fuelled his resolve to make a tangible difference.
“The Accident and Emergency Unit lacked the essential equipment needed to provide timely and effective care, despite the best efforts of the doctors and nurses.
“This initiative is more than an act of charity; it is a call to action; it is a call to all individuals who are privileged enough to have the means to make a difference to step forward to uplift the healthcare system.
“The healthcare system is in dire need of attention, and the government cannot do it alone,” he said.
Ropshik further said that he would foot the medical bills of the first 33 persons that would be admitted in the facility.
Mrs Kachollom Daju, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, commended Ropshik for the gesture.
Daju said the A&E unit was a critical component of every hospital’s mission in providing comprehensive, compassionate, and cutting-edge healthcare services.
She said the gesture would continue to enhance access to emergency care for the people of Plateau and beyond, which would improve patients outcomes and satisfaction.
The permanent secretary encouraged other well-spirited personalities who were in the position to do same to extend their goodwill to JUTH.
She called on the management of JUTH to guard the unit with utmost care and adequate maintenance.
Earlier, Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, JUTH Chief Medical Director (CMD), commended Ropshik for his laudable support of the renovation and the state of the act equipment.
Bupwatda said it created a conducive work environment for the medical professionals to discharge their duties proactively.
He stated that the accident and emergency unit of the hospital was one of the best in the country.
The CMD gave the assurance that the unit would be adequately maintained.
The letter of appreciation and commendation was given to Mr Kefas Ropshik for his laudable act by the federal ministry of health.
The A/E unit was named Mama Rhoda Danladi Accident and Emergency Unit in honour of her memory.
