Foundation set to promote tourism sites in Nigeria
The African International Documentary Festival Foundation (AFIDFF), an international Non-Governmental organisation (NGO) is set to promote and develop tourism sites in the country and Africa.
The Director-General of AFIDFF, Mrs Malame Mangzha, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja.
She said the foundation is a UNESCO implementing partner for the 2021 UNESCO World Heritage Volunteers Initiative.
According to her, AFIDFF is seeking partners among stakeholders to protect, preserve and promote world heritage sites like the Sukur Cultural landscape in Adamawa which has been in existence for over 600 years.
She said other UNESCO cultural sites such as the Osun Osogbo Grove also needed to be given more prominence in view of their unique tourism and economic potential.
“ It may interest you to know that UNESCO has inscribed Sukur Cultural Landscape (SCL) in Madagali, Adamawa State, as Africa’s first cultural landscape on the prestigious World Heritage List.
“Sukur is one of the 55 action camp projects to be implemented this year at 55 World Heritage properties and sites on the tentative list by 49 organisations in 32 countries around the globe,’’ she said.
The AFIDFF boss said the build-up to the programme would commence with a stakeholder and Awareness Support Dinner on July 13 and the Action Camp in Sukur in August.
She said the foundation was working in collaboration with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), the Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO (NATCOM UNESCO) and the Adamawa government to drive the project.
