Four Labour Party, LP members in the House of Representatives have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers are Mr. Tochukwu Okere, Imo state, Donatus Mathew, Kaduna state, Bassey Akiba, Cross River State and Iyawe Esosa, Edo and Erthiatake Ibori- Suenu, Delta State.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Tajudeen Abbas, announced the defection on the floor of the House during the plenary.
Reacting to the defection, the minority Whip, Mr. Ali Isah, asked the Speaker to declare the seats of the defected opposition lawmakers vacant in line with Section 68(1) of the Nigerian Constitution 1999 (as amended).
The Speaker however said, the lawmaker has failed to quote the whole section he quoted to justify his call to declare the seats vacant.
There was jubilation in the camp of the All Progressives Congress as they welcomed the new members.
