FRCN DG Visits Borno State Governor, Pledges Media Expansion

The Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Dr. Mohamed Bulama has called for the repositioning and expansion of the media as he paid his first inaugural courtesy visit to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum at the Government House in Maiduguri.
Dr. Bulama expressed his commitment to being a positive representative of the state, promising his dedication to repositioning FRCN during his four-year tenure. He also acknowledged the historical support from the Borno State Government, particularly during his previous role as Commissioner of Information in Vice President Kashim Shettima’s administration.
Dr. Bulama also seeks the Governor’s support in reshaping the radio cooperation to better serve Nigerians, emphasizing the need for alternative power solutions, such as solar, due to the rising costs of fuel and diesel.
He said; “I will also like to tell this gathering that courtesy of Senator Ali Ndume, we were able to insert into the budget of the 2024 the establishment of an FM radio station in Gwoza local government. The FM station will serve the surrounding areas, especially the southern parts of Borno State, we similarly looking at the possible ways of establishing another FM station in Monguno local government, to serve the people of the Northern Borno in due course, having in mind the importance of radio programmes in deradicalisation of the insurgency ideology.”
The DG recalled that the Northern Nigeria is known for its tradition of radio listenership, as one of the ardent listeners of radio in the world, stressing that “development will be better served if the people of Borno and other states, especially those affected by the insurgency, are in the position to listen to radio service across their states.”
Governor Zulum warmly welcomed the FRCN delegation, acknowledging the significance of information dissemination in nation-building.
He echoed the importance of radio platforms in reducing insurgency and radicalization, expressing the state’s commitment to partnering with FRCN for improved communication.
Commending the Peace FM in Maiduguri, the Governor highlighted their resilient service during the challenging times of the Boko Haram crisis.
Governor Zulum emphasized his commitment to providing continuous technical support and fostering collaboration for the enhancement of the Borno State Radio Corporation.
He stated that the meeting signifies a pivotal stride in fortifying the synergy between FRCN and the Borno State Government, united in their objectives of improving communication, countering insurgency, and promoting development throughout the region.
