UFC superstar Israel Adesanya revealed a shocking chapter in his fighting career, sharing a tale of financial hardship and resilience on The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) podcast.
A Dark Period in China
Before becoming the UFC’s middleweight champion, Adesanya faced a bleak reality in China. Following a loss to Alex Pereira in kickboxing, the promotion stopped offering him fights, leaving him financially stranded.
“I was the highest-paid foreign fighter in China, but they just stopped giving me fights,” Adesanya recounted. “I had seven fights left on my contract, but they wouldn’t give me any. I begged them, ‘Give me three fights, I just need three.'”
Desperation and Hardship
With his funds dwindling, Adesanya found himself with only $500 left – barely enough for a week’s groceries. This dire situation tested his resolve, but he refused to give up.
A Turnaround in Fortunes
Adesanya’s perseverance paid off as he eventually transitioned to the UFC, where he became a dominant force, known for his flashy style and unwavering confidence.
Adesanya’s story serves as a testament to his resilience and determination. From rock bottom to championship glory, his journey inspires fighters and non-fighters alike.
