The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing road crashes and improving safety across Nigeria as it marks 37 years of service.

Speaking at the anniversary celebration in Abuja on Tuesday, FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed commended the visionaries who laid the foundation for the Corps, emphasising that their efforts have transformed road safety management in Nigeria.

He said; “Today marks a significant milestone in the history of our organisation.”

Over the years, we have expanded from 16 sector commands to 37 and from five zonal commands to 12, a clear demonstration of our unwavering commitment to making Nigerian roads safer,” Mohammed said.

Strict law enforcement

Highlighting the Corps’ achievements, Mohammed noted a substantial decline in road crashes due to strict law enforcement, public education campaigns, and collaboration with stakeholders.

He, however, stressed that ”more work remains to be done, particularly in tackling reckless driving, overloading, and poor road infrastructure.”

Our statistics show a steady decline in road crashes, and this is the result of our relentless efforts in enforcing traffic laws and educating road users. But we are not resting on our achievements. The challenges ahead require even stronger action,” he said.

The anniversary was marked across all FRSC formations nationwide, with various activities aimed at reinforcing the Corps’ safety message and engaging the public in road safety awareness.

Mohammed reaffirmed the FRSC’s resolve to intensify enforcement and educational campaigns, ensuring that Nigerian roads become safer for all.
