The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, has called on all vehicle owners to ensure their number plates are properly registered and uploaded to the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) portal.

The Anambra Sector Commander, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander, made the call following the recent recovery of a stolen vehicle during a routine NVIS verification at the Corps’ Desk Office in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area.

This recovery is a testament to the effectiveness of our NVIS system. We encourage all vehicle owners to register their number plates correctly and upload them to the NVIS portal. It greatly enhances our ability to track and recover stolen vehicles promptly,” she said.

According to a statement by the Sector Public Education Officer, RC Margaret Onabe, the recovered vehicle was flagged during a verification initiated by an agent of the Board of Internal Revenue. Checks revealed the vehicle had been missing for several years.

Upon verification, the registered owner was contacted and confirmed she had not seen the vehicle in over three years. She presented original documents confirming ownership, after which officers of the Anambra State Police Area Command were called in for further investigation,” the statement read.

FRSC officials attributed the recovery to sustained collaboration with other security agencies in the state. Plans are underway to return the vehicle to its rightful owner.

The Anambra State Command reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology and inter-agency cooperation to boost road safety and security across the state.
