Galaxy Backbone engages Permanent Secretaries in ICT Techniques

The Nigerian government has engaged Permanent Secretaries on Information and Communications Technology ICT skills to stimulate viable economic techniques for revenue generation in the Country.

 

This is part of the implementation of the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a Digital Nigeria.

 

The training was organised by Nigeria’s ICT Service Providers, Galaxy Backbone Limited, GBB, with the aim of visualising Basic digital tools as essentials for development in the government workforce.

 

The capacity training was flagged off by  Managing Director,  the Galaxy BackBone, GBB, Professor Muhammad Bello Abubakar, who was represented by the Agency’s Executive Director, Finance Corporate Unit, Adamu Umar, at the State House, Abuja the nation’s capital tagged  ‘’The Objective Transformation and to Achieve Paperless Policy Initiative” 

 

Addressing the participants, Professor Abubakar enumerated the organisation’s mandates with an emphasis on Digital transformation to drive and Improve quality service for Nigeria’s economic Sustainability.

 

Speaking on Digital Economy& Nigerian Public Service, one of the Facilitators, Ms. Damola Sogunro of the e-Government Department from the Federal Ministry Of Communication And Digital Economy, said e-commerce and domestic productivity should be a major focus as it could be a game changer for Creativity, jobs opportunities and add values through revenue generation

The representative of the  Permanent Secretary, FCTA,  Zakari Bala, applauded the exercise and noted that FCT administration is already replicating the training by training over 2000 staff members on information technology.

 

The training, which has hosted 43 permanent secretaries, is among the numerous engagements by Galaxy Backbone Limited and is a deliberate effort by the federal government to foster migration from paper-based practice to full digitalisation in the public sector.

 

In a related development, the Managing Director Galaxy Backbone Limited Professor Mohammed Bello Abubakar says developing the capacities of staff is key to efficient service delivery.

 

He also described training in management and extended leadership in the organizations as a key factor to enhancing productivity, proficiency and agility among others

 

Professor Abubakar stated this in Abuja, Nigeria while playing the role of major facilitator in In-house training by the organisation.

 

He said step-down training from leaders could help in impacting the required development in organisations.

 

The Managing said the Galaxy Backbone which is also an enterprise organisation servicing both public and private businesses, must learn to capture the attention of its target while working towards specific goals.

 

“This training will improve your skills and knowledge of the job and builds your confidence in your abilities. This will also improve performance and make work more efficient and effective.

 

“Improved organisational structure boosts morale, makes approach their job duties with more self-confidence. Improved knowledge of policies and goals. This will also help employees get acquainted with their organizstion’s ethics, values, policies, visions and missions.

 

The GBB’s Boss, who centered his training topic on efficient productivity, said critical training is essential for positive results in any workforce.

“The impact of this training is expected to improve quality service and effective delivery which in turn boost Customers trust will feel the impact of this elevated service, and it will improve their opinion of the organisation”

 

He reminded the staff that the agency has the mandate to be “the provider of shared ICT infrastructure, applications and services to all Federal Government Ministries  Departments and Agencies as well as institutions and also host all Government data and deploy Transversal Applications across Government.

 

“To build and operate a single nationwide IP broadband network to provide network services to all FG MDAs and institutions.

 

To ensure quality service delivery and Customer satisfaction via service Improvement and Visibility, the Galaxy Backbone Boss said “we have Improved service visibility, Migration to cloud services

 

Provisioning of Backup and Disaster Recovery Site (s) Provisioning of Contact Centre.”

The GBB Boss however challenged the staff of the agency to improve on customer satisfaction and take their responsibilities.

 

“We need to think out of the box to discover new areas for government revenue generation. We need to be proactive in our thinking, by being innovative and equipping ourselves with the new trends in technology.

 

He said with the ever-increasing change in technology across all industries, exposing employees to new techniques in advanced technology will help to increase efficiency and productivity in the organization.

 

The Chief of Staff to the MD Mr. Owoicho Igoji commended the efforts of the Managing Director on the achievement recorded so far by the Agency.

 

He also applauded the Leadership style of Prof Abubarkar in ensuring the operations of the GBB were being guided by global best standards in serving the greater needs of the Nigerian public and private businesses by providing services that are efficient, safe, reliant, cost-effective and dependable at all times.
