The Nigerian Army has confirmed that courageous troops paid the supreme price when they ran into an ambush staged by insurgents in Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger state.
Following the incident, Voice of Nigeria contacted the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu who confirmed the incident and said the troops were courageous in standing against the insurgents.
He further stated that the gallant troops stood their ground and defended the territorial integrity of the nation with their lives even to death.
The Army Spokesman also said that the Nigerian Army is looking at how to console and bring respite to the families left behind by the fallen heroes who gave their lives in the line of duty.
General Nwachukwu further stated that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja who was on an operational tour of the North West theatre for an on-the-spot assessment and reinvigoration of ongoing operations, headed to the affected formation to encourage the troops in the area.
