The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa has urged Armed Forces personnel to prioritise physical fitness, stressing that regular exercise is vital to sustaining operational efficiency.

General Musa made this known during a maiden route match in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Represented by the Chief of Defence Administration, Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan, the Defence Chief emphasised the importance of consistent exercise among service members.

He noted that while many have previously neglected physical training, it remains crucial for staying mission ready and maintaining personal health.

The Defence Chief described the route march as a symbolic reboot for the troops, calling it “the charging of your engine.”

He further encouraged personnel to develop a habit of exercising at least three times a week, regardless of location or assignment.

“If you stop, you go back to square one, reinforcing the need for continuity in fitness routines”, he warned.

His remarks highlighted the broader vision of embedding wellness into the Armed Forces’ culture and fostering a sense of personal responsibility among officers.

General Musa’s charge reflects ongoing efforts to enhance combat readiness through preventive health strategies.

“Beyond strengthening physical capabilities, the push for regular exercise also aims to boost morale and mental resilience within the ranks”, he stressed.

“As the Armed Forces adapt to modern challenges, cultivating fitness becomes not just a routine but an integral part of national defense,” he added.

He congratulated everyone that participated in the rout match.
