The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has called on the State Government to give full autonomy to the State Internal Revenue Board to operate optimally.
Chairman, House Committee on Financial and Appropriation, Hon. Aliyu Dogara stated this during the budget defence of the State Board of Internal Revenue in Lafia. He noted that the last assembly had passed the autonomy bill of the state revenue board into law, but the bill’s full implementation wasn’t achieved, hence the need for his call.
The chairman said that the autonomy would enhance the board’s activities, thus improving its revenue status. He commended the board’s management under its chairman, Mohammed Ahmed Yakubu, for being up and doing in taking the board to the greater height.
Dogara urged him to redouble effort in revenue generation to enable the government to do more for the people. The committee also hosted the Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Finance, Emmanuel Alidzi, where he briefed the committee extensively on their budget proposal.
In the same vein, Dr Dominic Bako, the Director-General, Bureau for public procurement, defended his agency 2022 budget proposal before the Finance committee.
