Dr Aminu Magashi Garba, Coordinator of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), has been elected Secretary and Member of the Board of Directors of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) Consortium.
The announcement was formally conveyed to him by Dr Jennyfer Ambe, Chair of the Board of Directors, on 1st July 2025.
The GHSA Consortium comprises a coalition of non-governmental organisations dedicated to enhancing global capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to disease outbreaks and public health threats.
Dr Garba’s election represents a significant recognition of his expertise and longstanding commitment to strengthening health security frameworks across Nigeria and the African continent.
Through his leadership at AHBN, Dr Garba has consistently advocated for accountability in health security, empowered civil society organisations, and promoted transparency and good governance within public health systems.

The Africa Health Budget Network under his leadership has co-organised key national and continental initiatives—most notably Nigeria’s COVID-19 conference—and empowered civil society actors in eight African countries to contribute meaningfully to public health reforms.
Dr Garba’s election is expected to strengthen international collaboration on health security and foster a more equitable, responsive, and prepared global health architecture.
