GOC Commends Troops Bravery in Anti-Banditry Operations in Kano

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1, Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Wase has commended frontline troops for their bravery, professionalism, and dedication in ongoing operations against banditry in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

In a statement, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, said; “Major General Wase gave the commendation during an operational visit to Forward Operating Bases at Farin Ruwa and Tsaure in Shanono.”

The visit followed a recent bandit attack in the area on November 2, 2025, in which two security personnel and one member of the Civilian Joint Task Force lost their lives in the line of duty.

The GOC said “his visit was to assess the security situation, boost troops’ morale, and provide operational guidance.”

He praised the soldiers for their gallantry and urged them to sustain efforts in ensuring that the region remains safe from banditry and other criminal activities.

Major General Wase assured the troops of the continued support of the Chief of Army Staff, particularly in the areas of logistics, intelligence, and welfare to ensure operational success and lasting peace in the region.

In continuation of the visit, the GOC toured border communities between Kano and Katsina States identified as major routes used by criminal elements.

He directed the troops to maintain vigilance, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and deepen partnerships with local stakeholders to enhance security across the area.

The troops deployed in Shanono comprise personnel from the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Civilian Joint Task Force, operating jointly under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

Major General Wase later paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Government House, Kano.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Nigerian Army and the state government to sustain peace and stability.

The visit also featured an exchange of souvenirs and reaffirmation of mutual commitment to security in the state.
