The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its unity in Gombe State, following an extensive stakeholders’ meeting that resolved lingering leadership issues and consolidated the party under a single command structure.

At the meeting, party leaders agreed to unite under the leadership of Mr. Auwal Abba Barde, with Danladi Ya’u Bala retained as the State Secretary.

The gathering drew senior party officials from within and outside the state, underscoring the importance attached to reconciliation and cohesion within the party.

The meeting also formally recognised former Minister of Transportation, Senator Abdullahi Idris Umar, as the overall leader of the ADC in Gombe State.

Senator Umar said the decision marked a turning point in the party’s structure and resolve.

He said that in a notable development, the State Secretary openly acknowledged that the old order, in which the secretary was regarded as the de facto party leader, had been set aside.

He pledged full loyalty and submission to the recognised leadership of the party in the state, a move Senator Idris Umar described as a clear demonstration of commitment to unity and progress.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Senator Umar said the ADC was now stronger and better positioned to confront the challenges of upcoming elections in Gombe State and across Nigeria.

He expressed confidence that the party would record sweeping victories, securing a substantial majority at both state and National Assembly levels.

Registration of New Members

Senator Umar announced that the ADC would soon commence the registration of new members and the validation of existing memberships, adding that party congresses would be held nationwide between February and March.

The state leader gave members the assurances that all party activities would be conducted in a free, fair and just manner, with equity for all members.

He described the ADC as the most formidable opposition party in Nigeria, noting that its renewed unity would attract more Nigerians seeking an alternative platform.

According to Senator Umar, the party is well placed to offer solutions to the country’s economic challenges, calling on members to remain united to achieve victory at the polls.

“The way out is for everybody to find a party and ADC is the solution to Nigeria’s numerous challenges,” he said.

Speaking at the meeting, the National Women Leader of the ADC, Mrs. Naomi Lasara Abel, stressed the centrality of unity to the party’s growth and electoral success, urging members to put collective interest above personal ambitions.

Former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Mr. John Lazarus Yoriyo, who served as Chairman of the party’s Transition Committee, said the process was aimed at strengthening internal democracy and preparing the party for future electoral contests.
