The Gombe State government has approved ₦500 million as matching funds for the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), in partnership with UNICEF, to strengthen the response to severe acute malnutrition.
This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by Ismaila Uba-Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs, Gombe.
Uba-Misilli said “the intervention through the Child Nutrition Fund would expand access to treatment for children with severe acute malnutrition across communities in Gombe.”
He noted that “Gombe remained among the few states consistently meeting nutrition counterpart funding obligations…The latest contribution reinforced the administration’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children, especially those under five years.”
Uba-Misilli also said that “consistent funding had supported steady improvements in child survival and health outcomes, reflecting the state government’s resolve to invest in programmes that strengthen nutrition services and reduce preventable childhood illnesses.”
He emphasised that sustained investment in therapeutic food aligned with the Governor’s strategy to reduce child mortality, enhance early development and ensure no child suffered from treatable malnutrition due to limited access to essential interventions.
