Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has commended the peaceful primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Gombe State, saying the party remains rock solid and ready to give the opposition a resounding defeat in the forthcoming 2023 elections.

The governor said this in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area, shortly after gracing the APC Senate Primary for the Gombe Central Senatorial District election, in which the serving Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje won with 100 votes.

He expressed delight over the amicable resolution of the differences among the party stalwarts, saying that “with understanding and good leadership, what we thought impossible is made possible.”

He said as governor and for the sake of the party’s unity, despite not being from the Gombe Central Senatorial District, he witnessed the process and gave Senator Goje the support to what he calls a historic resolution, which he believed would further strengthen the party.

The Senatorial election saw Senator Goje polling 100 votes to defeat Abubakar Mu’azu Hassan, who scored 3 votes, while Senator Idris Umar got two votes.

The Chairman of the Election Panel and Returning Officer, Dr Danjuma Dabo, in the presence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC Officials, and other observers, announced the results.

The governor thanked Senator Goje and Mr Kumo, and other stakeholders for putting the party’s interests above their interests.

He further commended the level of maturity exhibited by the chieftains as an “indispensable sacrifice for the unity and progress of the party”.

He noted that the rift had ended with this settlement and that the party would remain united and wax stronger to face the general elections.

“We are now united and formidable. I have no doubt that we will win the forthcoming elections in 2023 with a landslide,” said Governor Yahaya.

He also thanked the party’s leadership at all levels, traditional rulers and religious leaders, and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the settlement.

“I would like to thank the APC election panel under the chairmanship of Dr Dabo for doing everything possible to make sure that APC in Gombe State remains a united, indivisible entity.

“For those who contested but lost in the primaries not only in this primary election but in all other elections everywhere in the state, I assured them we will carry everybody along,” said Governor Yahaya.

Similarly, Senator Goje commended Governor Yahaya for showing courage in leadership and for his cooperation and intervention, which led to resolving the dispute in the party.

“All grievances and differences have now been put to rest in the interest of our party and dear state.”

“He assured me of his unflinching support and commitment to ensuring the party’s success.

“I wish to commend Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his efforts toward the peaceful conduct of our party’s primaries. I equally appreciate his support for my success in today’s election.

“I also thank the delegates and all stakeholders for once more reposing confidence in me,” Senator Goje said.

He pledged to work for the unity and success of the party at all levels.

In the two other primaries, incumbent Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali scored 216 votes to clinch the Gombe North Senatorial District ticket.

While Sen. Joshua Lidani emerged as the winner for Gombe South with 90 votes to defeat the incumbent Senator Bulus Amos, who polled 40 votes and Bilyaminu Babadidi, who got 70 votes.
