The Gombe State Executive Council has approved ₦2.868 billion as counterpart funding for various donor agencies and development partners operating within the state.
The Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Salihu Alkali, informed journalists after a meeting chaired by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya that the decision was in line with an agreement between the state government, donor agencies, and development partners.
He explained that the government consistently meets its obligations under the agreement by paying its counterpart funding each year, which contributes to the execution of various projects.
Mr. Alkali stated that the funds were intended to support ongoing projects from organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Nations Population Fund, highlighting the government’s dedication to development initiatives.
He outlined the distribution of funds as follows: ₦300 million for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, ₦998.4 million for the Nigerian Solar for Health Project, ₦500 million for the ACReSAL Project, ₦100 million for the State Sustainable Urban and Rural Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (SURWASH) initiative, ₦500 million for the sustainable power supply in Nigeria, and ₦200 million for the Nigeria for Women Project. Additionally, ₦25 million will go to the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ARiN), ₦50 million to the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRESS), ₦50 million to the United Nations Population Fund, ₦30 million to the Sasakawa project, ₦40 million to the Gombe State Agency for the Control of AIDS (GomSACA), and ₦25 million to the Impact project.
Mr. Alkali stated that the funds would be allocated to development and life-changing projects throughout the state.
“Take for example N12 billion ACReSAL projects, which involve construction of removal of gullies in Gombe. Recently, it tackled erosion from FCE (T) which is about 21km and it was done with funds from this ACReSAL project. For Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as you know is involved in ensuring that poor and vulnerable particularly children suffering malnutrition by providing them nutritious foods. The counterpart shows commitment, that government is serious once paid development and donor agencies do what they promised to do,” Mr. Alkali said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, Mr. Mohammed Fawu, announced that the Gombe State Executive Council has approved a budget of ₦537,040,276.77 million for providing drinking water at the new School of Nursing and Midwifery, which currently has a student population of over 600, with plans for further expansion.
Mr. Fawu stated that the water project would ensure that all necessary amenities and facilities are in place before the students move to the new location.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, Mr. Mohammed Fawu, announced that the Gombe State Executive Council has approved a budget of ₦537,040,276.77 million for providing drinking water at the new School of Nursing and Midwifery, which currently has a student population of over 600, with plans for further expansion.
He mentioned that water would be provided through the Gombe Regional Water Project. He explained that the funds would be used to drill a dedicated solar-powered industrial borehole, located within 300 meters of the college, to serve as a backup and supplement the school’s water supply in case of any issues.
The Gombe State Commissioner for Water Resources announced that some of the funds will be allocated for the construction of a 200 cubic meter overhead tank for water storage at the college, along with a 300 cubic meter underground tank to be built on the college grounds.
