Gombe Governor inaugurates governing councils of three tertiary institutions

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has inaugurated the Governing Councils of three tertiary institutions in the state, Gombe State University, of Nursing & Midwifery and the College of Health Sciences & Technology.
Governor Yahaya said the Governing Councils were expected to provide policy direction and the desired leadership for the schools for the much development in the education sector.
He said individuals of impeccable character and a good record of accomplishment were chosen into the various councils and boards, in order to ensure that the institutions of higher learning achieve their statutory objectives.
Governor Yahaya believes that members of the governing councils will bring along their wealth of experience and unique expertise for the development of the institutions.
The Governing Council of the Gombe State University is charged with the responsibility of supervising policy implementation, finances and property of the University, ensure proper safekeeping and auditing of the University’s accounts annually, while cooperating with the State Government, University Management, as well as the various Unions in the University, among others.
Governor Yahaya said the boards for the colleges of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as Health Sciences and Technology, should discharge their responsibilities with efficient mobilization and application of resources.
He said this more important due to the prevailing economic condition caused by Covid-19, which called for prudence and accountability.
According to him, the boards should help their institutions ensure accountability and compliance with best practices, by helping create innovative ways of generating revenue and reduce financial dependence on the government.
The College of Nursing & Midwifery was established to train the much-needed manpower for the health institutions and a vehicle for effective healthcare delivery in Gombe State.
“On its part, the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Kaltungo, was established to produce skilled health technologists and allied personnel to help our health institutions respond to emerging and re-emerging health challenges across the State,” said Governor Yahaya.
He said their appointments and the inauguration was timely because the Government was seriously investing heavily in the education sector, with the declaration of the State-of-Emergency in education.
The Gombe State University Governing Council is chaired by a former Deputy Governor in the state, Senator Joshua Lidani, while the Chairman of the Gombe State College Of Nursing & Midwifery is Alhaji Sa’idu Mohammed Abubakar and the College of Health Sciences & Technology Governing Council is chaired by Alhaji Ahmed Sallau Pindiga
Responding on behalf of the three governing council members, Senator Lidani said the members of the councils identified with the dream of Governor Yahaya and would put in their best for the realization of the dream.
