Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has visited the newly constructed 200-bed ultramodern General Hospital in Kumo, located in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The 200 bed capacity new facility replaces an outdated hospital that could no longer meet the healthcare needs of the community.

It is now designed to serve as a comprehensive referral centre, offering a wide range of healthcare services.

According to Governor Yahaya, reconstructing the hospital from the ground up was essential, because the previous facility was in a state of disrepair and lacked the necessary equipment to provide adequate healthcare.

“This new hospital is part of our broader commitment to delivering quality and affordable healthcare services to the people,” said Governor Yahaya.

He emphasized that the hospital was built to international standards, allowing it to function not only as a general hospital, but also as a facility capable of providing tertiary healthcare services.

The governor also highlighted similar initiatives in Kaltungo and Bajoga, where new hospitals have been established, along with the revitalization of at least one primary healthcare facility in each of the state’s 114 political wards.

“Our achievements in the health sector, from workforce development to infrastructure improvement, are evident for all to see,” Governor Yahaya noted.

Strategically located along the Gombe-Yola road, the Kumo General Hospital will serve both the local population and travelers.

During the inspection, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, guided the governor through the facility, noting its capacity to handle complex medical cases, including heart surgeries and other critical procedures.

He praised the hospital’s modern equipment and its potential to become a leading healthcare centre. not just in Gombe State, but throughout the Northeast zone.

“In this theatre, multiple surgeries can be conducted simultaneously, making it well-suited for emergency and life-saving procedures,” Dr. Dahiru explained.

Governor Yahaya also inspected the hospital’s state-of-the-art laboratories, wards, maternity unit, accident and emergency complex, mortuary, power house, mini water treatment plant, and other essential facilities.
