The governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, in Gombe State, Mr. Khamisu Mailantarki, has officially joined the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
It will be recalled that Mailantarki resigned from the NNPP in July this year, but delayed aligning with any party until recently.
He is joining the PDP along with other supporters from the NNPP and APC.
During the welcoming reception ceremony at the PDP State Secretariat, Gombe, Mr. Mailantarki expressed his commitment to rejuvenating the PDP in Gombe with the goal of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the 2027 elections.
He said his convictions were based on the APC’s leadership at both federal and state levels, where he called the governance a “failure,” but highlighted the PDP as the only party capable of challenging the APC.
Biometric registrations
Mr. Mailantarki condemned several policies of the ruling party as uncompassionate, such as the revocation of land titles and a requirement for civil servants to complete daily biometric registrations to qualify for salary payments.
He also argued that forcing workers to commute five days a week without adequate compensation was unfair, especially given current economic challenges.
The state PDP chairman, Abnor Kwaskebe, welcomed Mailantarki’s defection, describing it as a significant boost for the party and promising a level playing field for all members.
