The Gombe State Police Command has announced a comprehensive array of security measures designed to maintain public order and safety during celebrations, festive periods, and other large gatherings.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, the Command has implemented a strict prohibition on the public display and possession of dangerous weapons, including knives, cutlasses, machetes, daggers, clubs, and similar offensive items.

This directive, applicable statewide, aims to mitigate violence and thuggery, particularly concerning activities associated with local gang conflicts known as “Kalare.”

The Commissioner underscored that the Nigerian Constitution and relevant criminal laws prohibit the unlawful possession of offensive weapons and cautioned that the Command would adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards any conduct that threatens public peace, especially during celebratory events or rival gatherings.

In conjunction with the weapons ban, the police have introduced new restrictions on motorcycle usage across Gombe State. Motorcycles are now prohibited from operating between the hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM daily.

Additionally, motorcyclists are not permitted to carry more than one passenger at a time. The use of truck-style or excessively loud horns on motorcycles is also strictly banned.

Police officers and other security personnel have been mandated to enforce these regulations rigorously, with offenders subject to arrest and prosecution according to the law.

The Police Command appeals to traditional rulers, community leaders, event organizers, parents, and the Motorcycle Riders Association to disseminate awareness regarding these new measures and to promote compliance.

Furthermore, the Command encourages members of the public to report any violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or to utilize the following emergency contact numbers: 0815 056 7771, 0903 643 5359, 0703 879 3973.

While reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the rights and freedoms of all citizens, the Gombe State Police Command emphasized its readiness to take decisive action against any individuals or groups that pose a threat to public safety.
