The Gombe State Police Command has convened a strategic security meeting with executive members of the All Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Gombe State Chapter, as part of ongoing efforts to bolster safety and security across the state’s secondary schools.

The meeting focused on evaluating current security arrangements within schools and identifying areas needing improvement, particularly in isolated or high-risk locations.

According to Commissioner of Police CP Bello Yahaya, the initiative aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensure that Nigeria’s learning environments remain safe and conducive for education.

CP Yahaya reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting educational institutions. He emphasised the importance of continuous assessment, proactive planning, and close collaboration with school authorities and officials from the Gombe State Ministry of Education in addressing emerging security challenges.

Enhanced Surveillance
The Commissioner commended the Principals’ leadership for their willingness to collaborate with the Police and assured them that the Command has intensified patrols, strengthened surveillance, and enhanced rapid response strategies around schools, especially in vulnerable areas.

He further highlighted the importance of timely information sharing, active community policing, and ongoing communication between school management teams, Ministry of Education representatives, and the nearest Divisional Police Stations.

In their response, ANCOPSS executives expressed gratitude to CP Yahaya for prioritising school safety. They acknowledged the urgency of upgrading security structures across the state and pledged to work closely with both the Police Command and the Ministry of Education to ensure that all secondary schools are better equipped and prepared.

The Gombe State Police Command also urged parents, teachers, community leaders, and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities, emphasising that safeguarding students is a shared responsibility requiring collective commitment to maintain a secure learning environment.
