The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau said over 67 centres has been designated for the administration of the vaccines across the 11 local government areas.
So far over 47,000 have been inoculated with Astrazeneca vaccine in the state, before the commencement of the present phase
Consequently, Dr. Jatau said the number of doses received would help the state in vaccinating a wider range of people saying over 100,000 is just for this time around.
“Like I said, this is an exercise that will continue uptil the year 2022, so there is no cause for alarm. We are ready for all to be vaccinated. The thing is if you take now, don’t take again, don’t be too greedy. For us to continue with this phase 67 points in 11 LGA’s have been designated including the state capital for people to access the vaccines easily, ” Dr. Jatau said.
He further enjoined residents above 18 years to present themselves for vaccination, noting that those yet to complete their doses could take advantage of the second phase.
“We have received the second phase of Covid-19 vaccine that will be used on our citizens. On Friday, 27th of August 2021 the state received a batch of over 100,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines made for the second phase of the vaccination exercise,” said Jattau said.
He said the arrival of the vaccination exercise is therefore timely, in view of the resurgence in the Covid-19 cases in the Country and in the world, saying the need for the vaccine has proven to be the only effective means of preventing the spread of the disease and also to mitigate the effect.
“I’m very much aware there are those who took just one dose, before they could get the second one unfortunately the dose was short, at the moment we have it on ground, those people should come and complete it,” said Dr. Jatau.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, explained that 87,360 doses of moderna and 12,794 doses of Astrazeneca would help augment the existing shortfall in the state.
“All vaccines are the same just like paracetamol having different brands. They have the same potency, the same efficacy, same performance. The hose that have taken Astrazeneca as their first dose, can still take Astrazeneca as their second dose. Beginners can start with moderna. So which ever one you take is the same, it will give you the same effect.”
