Th.e Gombe State Government is embarking on various road projects across the state, to enhance access to the state capital and ease traffic within the metropolis.
At the inspection tour of Phase 6 of the ongoing township roads projects within Gombe Metropolis, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, said his administration had undertaken the road construction in the area to improve connectivity within Gombe metropolis, provide alternative routes to Gombe- Biu Road, Sabon Layi and State low cost which are main arteries of the city’s traffic.
Governor Yahaya said “this would further decongest the city and reduce traffic jams on the major routes, thereby improving the standard of living of the common man.”
Governor Yahaya first inspected the 4.3 kilometre Idi-Kagarawal-Unguwa Uku-Malam Inna Road, with laterite subbase and fill completed, where several box culverts and outlet drains are being constructed to ensure proper discharge of runoff and connect the densely populated communities that were hitherto inaccessible.
The Governor inspected the 2.5-kilometre Bolari-Miyetti-State Low-Cost roads, which is at a 95% completion stage.
He was conducted round by the Commissioner of Works and Transport, Mr. Abubakar Bappah and the Project Manager, Triacta Construction Company, Mr. Imran Amin.
Both roads were awarded in November last year, as part of the Governor Yahaya-led administration’s determination to actualise the ambitious Network 11-100 project, which seeks to construct at least one hundred kilometres of roads in each of the 11 Local Government Areas of the State. At the Idi- Unguwan-Uku-Kagarawal-Malam Inna Road, Governor Yahaya gave the people of the area the assurances that the project would be completed in record time, to boost social and economic activities in the area.
He, however, appealed to the people not to encroach on the remaining lands beside the road, because the government intended to use the space to plant trees, install solar streetlights, and reticulate pipelines for adequate water supply among other services.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the inspection visit, Governor Yahaya expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of work being executed on both road projects.
He also expressed confidence that with the speed with which the road constructions were going on, it would not be long before the realisation of the vision of the Network 11-100 project in each of the 11 local government areas of the State.
Governor Yahaya said, despite the paucity of funds, his administration would continue to expand road networks and provide other social amenities across the State, one step at a time.
He said; “This one was awarded about 4 months ago and you can see for yourselves the level of accomplishment and the happiness in the faces of the people, which means the more you do for the people, the more they people and come to embrace the Government.
“Our government is for the people and we shall continue to work for them to meet their yearnings and aspirations.”
The Village Head of Kagarawal said his community would remain ever grateful to Governor Yahaya, for impacting their lives, through the provision of road networks and other social amenities, such as the 150-bed capacity hospital, as well as the erosion control project among others.
