The Gombe State Government has announced a final extension of the deadline for the recertification of plots and the collection of allocation letters in the newly designated Shehu Abubakar District, formerly known as the BAP 4 Layout.

Speaking at a press briefing in Gombe, the Director-General of the Gombe Geographic Information Systems (GOGIS), Kabiru Usman Hassan, stated that the recertification exercise and collection of allocation letters had been extended to Friday, 16 January 2026, effective from Monday, 5 January 2026.

Hassan explained that the extension applies strictly to eligible allottees who had previously participated in the documentation and verification process.

He said affected individuals would be required to present an acknowledgement slip for documentation, original title documents, one recent passport-sized photograph, and a valid means of identification, such as a National Identity Card, international passport, or driver’s licence.

According to him, applicants who had lost their documents must provide a certified true copy of a police extract, a sworn affidavit, and evidence of publication in a newspaper.

Where an eligible allottee is unavailable, a duly executed letter of authority will be required for collection on their behalf.

The GOGIS Director-General warned that failure to collect allocation letters or complete the recertification process within the extended and final deadline would be regarded as a voluntary forfeiture.

“Such plots,” he said, “would revert to the Gombe State Government and be reallocated in accordance with existing laws, policies, and regulations, without further notice.”

He added that verification would be conducted on working days only, excluding weekends and public holidays, between 9.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.

Hassan also advised members of the public to disregard rumours or misleading information and to direct all enquiries regarding payments, penalties, and allocations to GOGIS.

It will be recalled that the Gombe State Government lawfully revoked all Rights of Occupancy over lands within the former BAP 4 Layout pursuant to Executive Order No. 007 of 2024.

Dr Hassan explained that the revocation was carried out in strict compliance with Section 28 of the Land Use Act, following breaches of the conditions of grant and considerations of overriding public interest.

Following the revocation, he said GOGIS initiated a comprehensive land reform and regularisation programme in line with its statutory mandate and state land administration policies.

“The programme,” he noted, “included a redesign of the layout, verification of interests, documentation and recertification of eligible allottees, culminating in the formal redesignation of the area as the Shehu Abubakar District.”

As part of the process, GOGIS conducted an open and duly advertised documentation and verification exercise for affected allottees at its Customer Service Centre.

So far, about 200 individuals have completed the verification process, while approximately 150 others are yet to do so. He noted that there are over 600 plots within the Shehu Abubakar Development District.

Hassan reiterated Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to transparency, accountability, compliance with the Land Use Act, and the protection of legitimate interests, while ensuring efficient and orderly land administration in Gombe State.
