Gombe State Governor Presents N320 Billion Proposed 2025 Budget

Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Yahaya has presented the proposed 2025 budget, which he describes as a demonstration of commitment to inclusive development and resilience amidst global, national, and local economic challenges.

Presenting the budget to the State House of Assembly, Governor Yahaya announced a proposed expenditure of N320, 110, 000, 000. 00, which is focused on tackling challenges and fostering inclusive growth for the collective well-being of the citizens of the state.

Tagged: the “Budget of Commitment and Resilience,” the budget reflects the dedication of the state government to sustainable development and the achievement of its Development Agenda (DEVAGOM), ensuring prosperity and well-being for all.

The Governor stated that the budget prioritizes sustainability, equity, and the welfare of the people, with a focus on key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture.

The proposed 2025 N320.11 billion budget allocates 65.30% to capital projects and 34.70% to recurrent expenditure.

Recurrent expenditure

Out of the total budget proposal, 111 billion naira is allocated for recurrent expenditure, which is 34.70%, while 209.02 billion naira is earmarked for capital projects, accounting for 65.30%.

Highlighting major allocations, Governor Yahaya revealed that the economic sector would receive the largest share, exceeding 138 billion naira, followed by works, housing, and transport at over 85 billion naira and the social sector with approximately 59 billion naira.

Over 32 billion naira is proposed for health, with education receiving more than 32 billion naira, higher education receiving more than 15 billion naira, and water resources, environment, and forestry receiving over 19 billion naira.

Acknowledging the economic challenges, the Governor pledged to implement fiscal reforms, minimize unnecessary expenditure, and attract private sector investment to maximize resource efficiency and deliver impactful results.

He stressed the importance of combating malnutrition and improving child health, revealing that substantial funds have been allocated to nutrition programmes aimed at enhancing dietary diversity and reducing malnutrition among vulnerable groups.

In his response, the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Luggerewo, commended the governor for prioritising the people’s needs through his policies and programmes, while reaffirming that the proposed 2025 budget aligned with the aspirations of Gombe State citizens.

He gave the assurances of the House of Assembly’s commitment to the timely passage of the appropriation bill to facilitate the continuation of key projects.

The Speaker also expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the 2024 budget, highlighting achievements in health, education, urban development, road infrastructure, and water supply.

He also lauded the Governor for the ambitious 3-Arm Zone project, which he said would provide a modern and efficient workspace for the state’s executive, legislative, and judicial arms.
