Gombe State Governor Swears In female Chief Judge

The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya has sworn in a female substantive Chief Judge, Justice Halima Mohammed.

Justice Mohammed had from October last year served in an acting capacity as the Chief Judge of the state, following the retirement of the former Chief Judge, Justice Joseph Ahmed Awak.

The Governor said Justice Mohammed has been found worthy to serve Gombe State and Nigeria in the important capacity as the Chief Judge, following the recommendation of the National Judicial Council on January 23, 2023, as required by the Constitution.

He said; “I approve the appointment of Justice Mohammed as the substantive Head of the State High Court of Justice and ratified by the members of the Gombe State House of Assembly.”

He praised Justice Mohammed as a source of inspiration to the daughters of Gombe State, because of her reputation as a woman of formidable legal expertise, outstanding experience, strong character and remarkable integrity.

Governor Yahaya believed that the new head of the Judiciary would impact positively the administration of justice by discharging her duties with utmost commitment and integrity, as she has always done for the benefit of our dear State.

The Governor said the challenges facing the country can be tamed with the swift and fair administration of justice, which will translate to development aspirations and consolidation of the Constitutional democracy.

Nigeria requires an incorruptible judiciary for the dispensation of justice to everyone in the State without discrimination, fear or favour,” he said.

The Governor pledged his administration’s priority on having harmonious working relations with the Judiciary, to facilitate the proper functioning of the Judicial Arm of Government.

“Since inception, the three arms of Government have been partnering in the development of our dear State. Needless to say that this unity must be maintained going forward, as our unity is our major source of strength,” Governor Yahaya said.

With about one week to the commencement of elections in Nigeria, the Governor called on political parties, their candidates and supporters to play by the rules and avoid anything that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.

The New Chief Judge pledged to dispense justice within the ambit of the law and introduce reforms in the judiciary.

She encourages girls in the state to put in more effort in life, to attain great heights.
