The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has sworn-in the 11 local government council chairmen that will take charge of affairs at the grassroots in the State.
While congratulating the new chairmen, Governor Yahaya urged them to extend genuine hands of reconciliation and partnership to the contestants that lost out during the last electoral process, regardless of party affiliation.
Governor Yahaya charged the new Chairmen to imbibe an open-door policy in order to raise the state to an enviable height.
He also urged them to put all necessary measures in place to protect the lives and property of the people.
“Ensure that any measures taken are fully implemented and sustained in order to ensure the security and well-being of the lives and property of the people.” He said.
The Governor urged the newly sworn-in chairmen to come up with constructive and workable ideas for the development and transformation of their respective local government areas, using their wealth of experience to speedily provide the much-needed dividends of democracy to the people.
Governor Yahaya, however, reiterated that his administration would not tolerate corrupt practices under whatever guise, thereby charging them to live above board and ensure transparency in the conduct of their duties.
“I charge you to be fair, equitable, and just to all citizens irrespective of political or cultural differences. The relative peace and harmony that is prevailing in the state must be guarded jealously,” Governor Yahaya said.
He commended the Secretaries of the 11 Local Governments for their positive contributions during their tenure as overseers since his assumption of office in May 2019.
The Chairman of Gombe Local Government, Alhaji Harua Usman Aliyu, who responded on behalf of the other Chairmen, pledged their loyalty and commitment to ensure the realization of the government’s vision for the state, for the overall growth and development of the people of the State.
