The Gombe State Government has commenced the distribution of 25,000 bags of rice donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to support vulnerable households across the state.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Abubakar Inuwa Kari, flagged off the distribution, expressing gratitude to Alh. Aliko Dangote and his foundation for their continued support, particularly during Ramadan.
He highlighted that this intervention aligns with his administration’s commitment to assisting the less privileged, recalling that the state had earlier launched a large-scale food distribution at the start of Ramadan to cushion economic hardships.
To ensure transparency in the distribution, the governor gave the assurances that the existing distribution framework, which has been used successfully in past exercises, would be maintained to ensure fairness.
“When the commodities were handed over to the state government, we already had an established distribution structure with standing committees that have successfully handled previous exercises,” he said.
He also directed that a new set of beneficiaries receive the palliatives, ensuring a wider reach among those in need.
The Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) affirmed that all donated items would be directly distributed to the intended recipients.
Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Gombe Chapter, Mr. Sani Ahmad Haruna, praised the governor’s inclusive distribution model, noting that it has become a benchmark for other states.
Leaders of various beneficiary groups—including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Hisbah, expressed their appreciation for the initiative.
Food Items Dispatched Across LGAs
At the event, symbolic allocations were made to key organizations before fully loaded trucks departed for LGAs, wards, and polling units, ensuring swift distribution across the state.
The governor urged residents to continue praying for the state and the nation, as his administration remains committed to supporting vulnerable communities.
