The Gombe State Government has initiated a new monitoring and evaluation policy program aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and effective governance.

The policy is aimed at ensuring that all state projects and initiatives are systematically assessed to prevent poor implementation or abandonment.

The Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who was represented by his Deputy Manassah Daniel Jatau, stressed that the policy would align with the state’s ten-year development agenda (2020–2030).

Jatau said the policy would help track and evaluate progress, ensuring government strategies meet citizens’ expectations.

He highlighted the administration’s commitment to evidence-based planning and results-driven management.

Commissioner of Budget and Planning, Salihu Baba Alkali, called the policy’s launch a key milestone in improving monitoring and evaluation systems in the state.

Representatives from UNICEF and the Federal Ministry of Budget also commended Gombe for being the first state to adopt such a comprehensive framework.

The event was attended by top state officials, civil servants, and development partners.

The Chief of UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office, Nuzhat Rafique, commended the state government for adopting and launching the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) policy, already introduced at the national level.

She emphasized that M&E is vital for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of government initiatives by providing real-time insights into progress, highlighting challenges, and recommending necessary adjustments.

She noted that the new policy reflects the government’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and results-driven governance.

Rafique reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to supporting Gombe State in successfully implementing the M&E policy.

“All technical and financial support will be provided as planned and discussed with the state,” she confirmed.

UNICEF’s Chief of Planning and Monitoring, Wayne Amago Bacale, also commended the launch, calling it a positive step towards sustainable progress in the state.

“This policy will enable us to track progress in alignment with the state’s development plan, which outlines key priorities and goals to be achieved by 2030. Through monitoring and evaluation, we can assess how well we are advancing toward these targets.”
