The Gombe State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has called on intending pilgrims to complete their payments promptly following the extension of the Hajj payment deadline by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji Sa’adu Hassan, made the appeal while speaking to Voice of Nigeria on preparations for the 1446 (Islamic calendar) 2025 Hajj exercise.

NAHCON had initially set the payment deadline for January 31, 2025, but extended it to allow more intending pilgrims to finalise their payments.

Hassan said that “those who have not completed their payments should do so without delay.”

He also announced that new applicants who could not make initial deposits before the deadline now have an opportunity to participate in this year’s pilgrimage by paying in full immediately.

Those who are yet to complete their payments are requested to do so immediately. Even those that are desirous of paying now are allowed to pay in full,” Hassan stated.

He further disclosed that each pilgrim would receive $500 as Basic Travelling Allowance (BTA), an increase from last year’s $400 per pilgrim.

On preparations for the pilgrimage, Hassan noted that the board had made significant progress, including organising a Pilgrims Enlightenment Programme (PEP) to educate participants on religious rites, diplomatic relations, and financial management.

The programme was temporarily suspended to allow intending pilgrims to focus on Ramadan fasting but will resume daily after the holy month to ensure thorough preparation.

Hassan also advised intending pilgrims to familiarise themselves with the exchange rate between the Naira and the Saudi Riyal to avoid unnecessary spending while in the holy land.

Always compare the value of the Saudi Riyal to the Naira to understand the exchange rate and make informed financial decisions,” he cautioned.

With the extended deadline, the Gombe Pilgrims Board is urging all intending pilgrims to take advantage of the opportunity and complete their payments to ensure a smooth and successful Hajj experience.
