Gout Gout Becomes Fastest 16-Year-Old Sprinter
Gout Gout Breaks Records as Fastest 16-Year-Old in 200m History
Australian teenage sprinter Gout Gout has shattered records by becoming the fastest 16-year-old in history over the 200m. Competing at the Australian Schools Championships in Brisbane, Gout clocked an astonishing 20.04 seconds, breaking the longstanding national record set by Peter Norman during his silver-medal run at the 1968 Olympics.
Historic Achievement in Context
Gout’s incredible time of 20.04 seconds makes him the fastest 16-year-old ever and the second-fastest under-18 athlete, following Erriyon Knighton’s 19.84-second run at 17 years old in 2021. This achievement highlights the rising star’s potential to become a major force in international sprinting.
Reflecting on his performance, Gout remarked:
“It’s pretty crazy… These are adults. And me, I’m just a kid, and I’m running them (down).”
Gout Gout’s Rapid Rise in Sprinting
Gout, who stands at 6ft 2in, has drawn comparisons to Usain Bolt for his speed and running style. Just a day before his record-breaking 200m run, he clocked 10.04 seconds in the 100m, the fourth fastest time ever recorded by an Australian.
Training with the World’s Best
The teenage sprinter’s talent has already garnered attention worldwide. Next month, Gout Gout will head to the United States to train with Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles, further honing his skills on the global stage.
Eyes on the 2032 Brisbane Olympics
Born to South Sudanese migrants and living in Ipswich, Brisbane, Gout’s story is one of remarkable promise. With the 2032 Olympics set to be hosted in his home city, Gout will be 24 years old and potentially in his prime, aiming to make history once again on the biggest stage.
