To boost income for individuals, reduce unemployment, banditry and restiveness, the Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, has called on the federal government to introduce technology-driven agriculture.

Ayade made this known while speaking at CSS Farms in Gora, near Abuja, saying the basis of all the insecurity in Nigeria was unemployment. He tasked the government to realise that the country cannot keep importing all manners of foods that can be produced by local farmers. According to the governor, if the country must rise beyond its present economic state, it must realise that agriculture and agro-industrialisation hold the key to a prosperous future, and accept that it was time for the country to fully return to agriculture devoid of its usual primitive mentality. Furthermore, he said Nigeria must replace her primordial and cumbersome methods of agriculture with mechanised farming, noting that all forms of industrialisation start with agro-industrialisation.
