Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has officially inaugurated the 23 newly elected Local Government Chairmen in the State.

Addressing the new Chairmen, Governor Alia stressed the vital principles of integrity, accountability, transparency, and fairness in governance.

He urged them to prioritize the welfare of the citizens, engage in productive discussions with stakeholders, and ensure that democratic services reach the grassroots level.

“The significant support and confidence displayed by the people of Benue during the elections affirm their belief in a promising future for the state under the administration of their preferred party”.

Emphasising the recently granted Local Government Autonomy, the Governor called for coordinated efforts between the State and Local Government authorities to implement policies that enhance rural communities’ well-being.

Governor Alia reminded the Chairmen that true leadership revolves around service and selflessness, rather than personal interests.

He advocated for unity, constructive feedback, and collaboration with opposition parties to fortify democracy and ensure effective governance.

Affirming his full support for the new Chairmen, the Governor expressed confidence in their ability to drive positive transformations in Benue.

As the Chairmen prepare to lead their respective Local Government areas, they are encouraged to swiftly inaugurate councilors and commence their journey towards progress, harmony, and prosperity for all residents of Benue.

The inauguration marks a promising era for Local governance in Benue State, heralding a brighter future under the capable leadership of the newly sworn-in chairmen.

However, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in separate statements have described the poll as an exercise in futility, vowing to challenge it in court.
