The Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani says there is great improvement in the security situation of the State, following measures put in place by the government in collaboration with security agencies.
He made the disclosure in Abuja on Friday, while speaking to State House Correspondents, after he met behind closed doors with President Bola Tinubu.
The State, located in the North-West region of Nigeria is about 198 kilometres from Abuja the nation’s capital.
The State also hosts the Nigerian Defence Academy, the Armed Force Command and Staff College, Jaji, yet it has suffered security challenges in recent past by the State kept adopting various measures to address the menace.
Addressing Journalists after he met President Bola Tinubu on Friday evening, the State Governor, Uba Sani broke the good news that those measures have started yielding the desired result.
He said; “I briefed him about the situations in my own state, particularly that of security, in which we are making a lot of progress. In the last few months, we have not had any major security problems in Kaduna.
“The issue here is that, you know, we have had a very robust collaboration with security agencies in Kaduna state. We also increase the level of synergy between the security agencies, the government and other relevant stakeholders that have been helping the state in terms of intelligence gathering and sharing.
“Of course, I also discussed with him the progress we’ve made since our MoU with Huawei in China, I briefed him about the progress we’ve made. A Committee has been set up. As we are speaking, we have been able to achieve the first phase of the MoU,” the Governor said.
Out of School Children
Governor Sani disclosed what the State government has done to address the problem of roads and out of school children.
He said; “So we also discuss our effort toward addressing the children in Kaduna. I informed him that in the last six months, we have reduced the number of other schools to the tune of about 300,000 because we built about 62 secondary schools in Kaduna, 2,340 classrooms in primary schools and we have employed teachers.
“We have also been able to reconstruct, remodel and equip about 12 secondary healthcare centers in Kaduna state. Not to talk about the 62 roads we are constructing, totaling about 700 kilometers across Kaduna state. Some of them have been completed and commissioned. Some are still in progress.
We’ve already also bought about 100 CNG buses in Kaduna state, which we are also calling on the President to come to Kaduna to commission for us. All this is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President,” the Governor said.
He also said the State government has adopted a style of cutting cut of governance.
“We embarked on a very serious adjustment; we made it clear that we need to reduce the cost of governance in Kaduna state. To date, we have not bought a single vehicle for any government official in Kaduna state. That has really helped us.
“We’ve reduced the allowances of all our Commissioners, Advisers, even my humble self, I’ve been receiving half of my salary since I became Governor of Kaduna State, and I’ve not had a single new vehicle as a Governor. So we have tremendously reduced the cost of governance and that’s the way to go if we really want to address our problems and improve on major areas of education, healthcare infrastructure,” Governor Sani explained.
