Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris in North West Nigeria has shared his enthusiasm for President Bola Tinubu’s decision to move forward with the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway project. During the groundbreaking ceremony held in Gulumbe town, Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, Governor Idris expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for honoring his promise to the Nigerian people.
The Sokoto-Badagry road, which originated from former President Shehu Shagari’s administration in the 1980s, is finally being realised under President Tinubu’s leadership after more than 40 years.
Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, referred to the project as a monumental investment with significant returns, highlighting its inclusion of 68 dams meant for irrigation. Governor Idris confirmed that necessary funds are in place to avoid financial challenges during the project’s execution.
This initiative is seen as a valuable investment for both current and future generations. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, praised President Tinubu’s leadership in this endeavor.
The Emir of Gwandu, His Royal Highness Muhammadu Iliyasu-Bashar, commended the federal government for reviving this important project, stating that President Tinubu is set to leave a lasting legacy.
This development is anticipated to improve connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for Nigerians in the region. Minister Umahi emphasized the project’s importance in linking Nigeria’s various geopolitical zones, connecting the South-West, South-South, North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions to boost transportation and economic activities.
The highway will also incorporate 53 dams aimed at supporting agriculture, electricity generation, and trade with neighboring African countries, positioning it as a cornerstone for Nigeria’s economic advancement. Senator Adamu Aliero, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, commended President Tinubu for undertaking this long-awaited project and acknowledged the transformative leadership of Gov. Nasir Idris in Kebbi State.
Governor Idris reiterated his appreciation for President Tinubu and committed to ensuring the project is completed on schedule. The Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway is set to transform Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure, promoting economic growth and enhancing connectivity across the region.
