The governor of Cross River State in southern Nigeria, Professor Ben Ayade has urged the Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission to block every financial leakage in government.

Governor Ayade gave the charge at the inauguration of the state owned anti-graft commission in Calabar, the state capital.

Ayade charged the seven – member commission to be above board in the discharge of their duties.

According to him, “there are so many places that we have leakages that we believe that your presence can help to block. We would want to be a perfect example of how a public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission could play its role.”

Speaking further the governor said, “there should be no political intrusions of any kind, no hatchets, nothing intended against anyone. It is our intention to give glory to the state and not shame the state.”

He reminded members of the commission to be conscientious as they render service to God and the state.

In his response, the chairman of the commission, a retired judge, Justice Effiom Ita, applauded the governor for birthing the commission and assured of the members resolve to serve with diligence.

Ita said, “l stand here to promise you and pledge that we shall do our very best. Permit me to say that as we have come onboard as members of this commission, it rests on our shoulders to perform.”

Other members of the Commission include Mr. Akiride Emmanuel, Eferi Eni Okoi, Mr. John Odey (representing the state government), State Auditor General for Local Government, Mrs. Franca Inok; Mr. Emmanuel Adam (representing the Nigerian police) and Faluyi Oluwale (representing the Department of State Security Service, DSS).
