Reflecting on the activities of Adamawa state in 2024, Governor Amadu Fintiri in his New Year message expressed gratitude for the support, resilience, and unity demonstrated by the citizens of the State that made it possible for him to achieve landmark goals despite the challenges the country encountered last year.
Some of such achievements, especially in Infrastructure Development, led to Governor Fintiri’s Award for the second consecutive time in 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.
This recognition acknowledges his outstanding achievements in transforming Adamawa State’s infrastructure landscape to revitalize critical sectors such as roads, bridges, healthcare, education, and water supply.
The governor reiterated his commitment to continuing the infrastructure revolution, in a quest to transform Adamawa State into a model for infrastructure development in Nigeria.
Another achievement was the launching of a transformative digital skills training program to train participants in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, and entrepreneurship.
The initiative, designed to empower 100,000 residents over the next two years, will equip them with essential digital skills, marking a major milestone in the state’s digital transformation journey to create jobs and drive economic development.
Similarly, the State lauded programs like the “Fintiri Wallet,” which has also empowered over 100,000 households through conditional cash transfers and Small and Medium Enterprises support.
Additionally, the government-subsidized public transport systems have alleviated economic pressures on residents, enhancing mobility and access to services.
On Security and Peace, Governor Fintiri reported a notable reduction in crime, including the suppression of urban gang activities and the notorious criminals known as “Shilah boys.”
The Adamawa Peace Project also played a crucial role in resolving farmer-herder conflicts and fostering peace across communities.
Still, on security, governor Fintiri reminded citizens of their shared responsibility and acknowledged the contributions of security personnel and stakeholders in maintaining peace.
In a landmark move to enhance governance and community harmony and to strengthen Traditional Institutions, the State administration created seven new chiefdoms and emirates.
The new administrative units include four 2nd-Class Status: and three 3rd-Class Status.
The governor emphasized that these efforts aim to improve governance, promote social cohesion, and preserve the dignity of traditional institutions.
Also, the Adamawa State Government made significant strides in agriculture in 2024, focusing on boosting food production and economic diversification.
He launched the Agricultural Programme for Poverty Alleviation and Climate Change Adaptation to support farming activities and improve agricultural production.
The program aims to provide permanent solutions to food security challenges and move beyond temporary palliative measures.
In his 2024 budget proposal, tagged ‘Budget of Re-engineering’, Governor Fintiri allocated funds to foster economic growth and development in the state, including projects and programs in the agricultural sector.
The budget proposal of N225.8 billion aims to transform the state and improve the standard of living of its people.
Governor Fintiri has made some remarkable achievements in education in 2024, particularly with the launch of the construction of 21 Model Basic Education Schools across Adamawa State. This ambitious project, worth ₦14,993,496,288.47, aims to provide modern and conducive learning environments for the students.
Each school was equipped with the necessary facilities to support learning from nursery to primary and junior secondary school levels. The governor’s commitment to education ensures that every local government area of the state has access to quality educational facilities.
In the health sector in 2024, governor Fintriri focused on improving healthcare services for mothers and children in Adamawa State.
He inspected a newly established world-class maternal and child healthcare center in Yola, which is equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and staffed by skilled healthcare professionals.
The Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency has also been recognized for its outstanding efforts in providing quality water supply at Primary Health Care facilities and communities, receiving an award for excellence at the 2024 International Conference on Water in Abuja.
Additionally, Governor Fintiri launched a humanitarian support program at the Specialist Hospital in Yola, providing cash gifts to 100 patients as part of the commemoration of his five years in office. This initiative is aimed at assisting the less privileged and will be conducted quarterly.
In politics, Governor Fintiri recently signed five bills into law. These include the Adamawa State Water Supply and Sanitation Hygiene Services Law 2024; Adamawa State Health Supplies Management Agency Law 2024; Teachers Service Commission Law 2024; Adamawa State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Ganye Law 2024; and Adamawa State College Of Nursing Sciences Law 2024.
The Governor emphasized the importance of collaboration in implementing these laws, ensuring their provisions are understood and adopted by all segments of society.
In the new year, Governor Fintiri assured residents of his administration’s commitment to fostering an inclusive economy, attracting investments, and strengthening security measures to ensure safer communities.
He called for a renewed partnership between the government and citizens to achieve the vision of a united, prosperous Nigeria.
