Taraba State Governor and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for Southern Taraba Senatorial District, Darius Ishaku has called for the extension of voting time in the State following the late arrival of voting materials in some parts of the State.
Governor Ishaku who voted at his polling Unit PU 004 in Takum at about 12:20 pm appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission to extend the voting time in Taraba to enable voters in areas where electoral materials arrived late to exercise their franchise.
Though he said it was too early to give an assessment of the Biomodal Accreditation System (BVAS) technology deployed by INEC, he expressed hope that his party the PDP will win the Presidential and National Assembly elections in his constituency.
“We had hitches regarding the distribution of election materials and it was sorted out late. Most areas received their voting materials late and I want to appeal to INEC to extend the voting time beyond 2 pm,” he said.
The Presidential and National Assembly election results form ECE8 were declared missing in Takum, forcing security agencies to recall all vehicles that left for various wards in Takum Local government area to return to Takum late last night to sort out the missing result sheets.
A councillor representing Chanchanji Ward Hon. James Ugo who accompanied the election materials back to Takum at about 11:45 am said the election result sheets were later discovered in Dutse Ward election materials.
The police public relations officer, Taraba State Command, Usman Abdullahi confirmed the missing result sheets but said the issue hhasbeen resolved.
“The election result sheets were declared missing and the Electoral Officer was held in custody, but the result sheets were later found.”
