The Order of the Knights of Saint Mulumba Nigeria has been commended for its humanitarian and spiritual activities focused on promoting justice, peace and good governance in the country.

The Governor of Cross River State in southern Nigeria, Senator Bassey Otu, gave the commendation when he received the Supreme Knight of the order, Sir Charles Mbelede and other officials.

Governor Otu, who welcomed the order’s return to Calabar, the capital of Cross River State for their 45th Supreme Convention after a decade, described their activities as essential to Nigerians.

Otu appreciated the Order’s dedication to serving humanity, noting that it aligned with values fostering societal progress and which his administration was equally committed to upholding as encapsulated in the ‘People First’ agenda.

“Everything that is of God takes precedence, no matter the protocol. It is true that we are passing through difficult times, times not peculiar to Nigeria alone, but shared across the globe. While there is much that can be done to address these issues, there are also interventions that only God can provide. This is a reality many fail to acknowledge,” the governor stated.

He urged the members of the Order to intercede for all leaders in Nigeria especially Cross River and the leadership to fulfill its pledge for a better society.

“As you deliberate during your convention, I urge you to pray for Cross River State and our government. Your prayers and the principles you stand for as an Order are sources of strength for us as leaders and for the people we serve,” he stressed.

 Justice, peace, good governance

Also speaking, the Supreme Knight, Sir Charles Mbelede expressed gratitude to Governor Otu for the warm reception accorded its members from across Nigeria.

Sir Mbelde acknowledged the transformation and progress made in Cross River State, particularly within Calabar, the capital, attributing recent development to the leadership style of Governor Otu.

The Supreme Knight, who outlined the accomplishments of the Order across Nigeria, reaffirmed their focus on justice, peace and good governance as well as the commitment to humanitarian services in collaboration with stakeholders for the betterment of society.

Meanwhile, members of the Order of the Knights of Saint Mulumba from all over Nigeria are in Calabar, the Cross River State capital for their 45th Supreme Convention, which runs from November 28 to December 2, 2024, at the Calabar International Convention Centre.
