Oyo State Governor in southwest Nigeria, Seyi Makinde, has approved the nomination of Oba Rasheed Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, with the coronation scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025.

The decision follows Ladoja’s formal nomination by the Olubadan-in-Council, clearing the path for the former governor’s enthronement as the paramount traditional ruler of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The previous Olubadan was Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, barely one year after ascending the throne

Confirming the development, media aide to the Olubadan-designate, Chief Adeola Oloko, said, “Oba Ladoja will be enthroned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, 26 September 2025.”

The development affirms Oba Ladoja’s earlier remarks to his guests on Monday that, with his return to the state, he would meet relevant stakeholders to agree on a coronation date.

While addressing family members, associates, and residents, Oba Ladoja also said he would consult stakeholders, including the governor and traditionalists Oluwo and Araba, to facilitate his installation process, which he described as coincidental.

Voice of Nigeria reports that Oba Ladoja, who was born in 1944, will be enthroned as the 44th Olubadan on 26 September 2025, a day after his 81st birthday.

At the meeting, a former President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, was chosen to chair the Coronation Committee.
