The Jigawa State Government, led by Governor Umar Namadi, has opened fresh talks with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) to enhance agricultural development in the state.

Governor Namadi met with AGRA Chairman Hailemariam Dessalegn on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa Food Systems Summit in Dakar, Senegal.

The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration to accelerate agricultural transformation in Jigawa.

Key areas of the high-level meeting included strategies to improve productivity, expand market access, and enhance the competitiveness of rice and wheat farmers.

The talks also explored aligning policies and governance frameworks for sustainable growth, as well as knowledge-sharing initiatives to empower smallholder farmers and drive innovation.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Governor Namadi said agriculture remains central to his 12-Point Agenda under the vision of building a “Greater Jigawa.”

He noted that the state is already a leading producer of wheat, rice, sesame, and hibiscus flower in Nigeria, and pledged to scale up existing initiatives to maximise the potential of Jigawa’s vast arable land and resilient farming communities.

The Africa Food Systems Summit 2025, taking place in Dakar from September 1 to 4, brings together African leaders, development partners, and private sector stakeholders to advance strategies for food security and agricultural transformation.
