Governor Adeleke who noted that the exercise was interventionist, said the aim of the outreach was to bring medicare closer to those who needed them.
He added that, his government had provided adequate medication for the exercise as well as eye glasses for those who might require them.
He said, “Today, we have come again, as a government that understands the need of its people to reach out to our citizens in order to alleviate their medical challenges.
“We have again made provisions to take care of various medical cases. The Government has provided adequate medications for this exercise and shall provide reading glasses for those that may require them.
“The current outreach program will take place in six centers with two (2) from each Senatorial district. We believe this will in no small measure reduce the current economic burden our people have had to bear.”
Governor Adeleke said no fewer than 22,000 citizens of the state benefitted from the first phase of the programme and the inauguration of the second phase would widen the coverage.
He directed the state commissioner for health to work out a plan to make the outreach a regular feature of the Adeleke administration.
According to the governor, the implementation of the above directive would make the outreach more sustainable, expansive and inclusive.
He said, “You will recall that the first phase of Imole Medical Outreach was held between February and April 2023 with about twenty two thousand (22,000) citizens of our State benefitting from Surgeries, eye and medical care.”
The state commissioner for health, Jola Akintola, while speaking said Governor Ademola Adeleke was walking the talk of making health one of the priority areas of his administration.
He said the Governor demonstrated this in his first 100 days in office when he began the medical outreach.
According to Akintola, about 18,000 beneficiaries were projected for the first phase but up to 22,000 people actually benefitted.
The commissioner urged residents of the area of coverage to take advantage of the outreach since it was instituted for them.
