Nigerians have been urged to collaborate with the government to rebuild an economically viable society.

The governor of Cross River State in southern Nigeria, Senator Bassey Otu made the call in Calabar, the state capital during an interdenominational solemn assembly organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria.

Governor Otu, in his message, urged the people to render selfless services for the overall development of the state, noting that it was important to commit governance of the state to the God almighty.

He said, “I know Cross River was doing well until it eventually collapsed. But, as we all heed to Gods directives to gather and pray in unity, God will heal and restore our land again.”

Rebuilding challenge

The governor admitted that rebuilding Cross River State was a task, which required wisdom and the collective effort of citizens including residents.

He said, “the people you have elected to represent you and I will not be able to do this work alone. We all must come together to rebuild the state of our dream. The challenge is bigger than a few of us. I strongly believe that what God cannot do does not exist.

“I want all of you to take up your mantle and join me in this journey of spiritual renaissance as we reposition the state because there will be enough for everyone to benefit from without pulling down your brother. What is most important to me is leaving an indelible print on the sands of time after the service period,” the governor stressed.

Avoid oppression

He also advised appointees and those elected into positions of authority to desist from any form of oppression rather focus on accountability and transparency in service delivery.

The governor urged, “let me remind you that power belongs to God. The position you occupy today is not to oppress others, but to diligently serve them and I will not relent in sacking anyone, who acts contrary. God has a reason for placing you where you are, but then it is not free, he demands accountability.”

He extended a hand of fellowship to all Cross River people across party lines to sheath their swords and join in rebuilding the state.
