Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani has  inaugurated a 10-member committee to resettle displaced communities of Southern Kaduna affected by various incidents of insecurity.

Speaking during the inauguration, Sani who was represented by his deputy, Dr Hadiza Balarabe said the move was in response to a recommendation by the State Security Council on Nov. 8, 2023.

He said that the deputy governor would chair the 10-member committee.

He stressed the importance of the committee’s task and responsibility towards the affected persons displaced from their homes due to various challenges.

“The Southern part of Kaduna has seen its fair share of displacement due to incidents of violence plaguing the state.

“The plight of these displaced persons weighs heavily on our collective conscience, and it is crucial that we take decisive action to address their needs and facilitate their resettlement,” he said.

He said the primary objective is to devise comprehensive strategies for their effective resettlement by facilitating access to basic amenities, healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities.

“We must prioritise the restoration of their sense of dignity and belonging within their communities.

“It is crucial that we approach this task with empathy, sensitivity, fairness, sense of urgency and a commitment to inclusivity.

“We must actively engage the displaced communities, by listening to their voices, understanding their concerns, and involving them in the decision-making processes that affected their lives,” he said.

Sani said this could be achieved by fostering a participatory approach, and ensuring that government efforts are truly responsive to the needs and aspirations of those it seeks to assist.

He said government would also leverage on the expertise and resources available through partnership with relevant stakeholders, non-governmental and community-based organisations and humanitarian agencies.

Collaboration

“Collaboration is the key to our success, as we work towards the common goal of facilitating the dignified return and sustainable reintegration of displaced persons into their communities.

“Together, we have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our fellow citizens. I am confident that with collective efforts, we can achieve our objectives and bring hope and stability to those in need,” Sani said.

He described the committee members as tested and proven who would bring their experience to bear to achieve the set objective.

The Secretary to the State Government, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, and the Chairmen of Jema’a, Kaura, and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas, are members of the committee, among others.
