The governor of Anambra State, and a former Central Bank Boss, Charles Soludo, has said that the State will appropriately adjust and respond to the new naira redesign policy of the CBN.
Soludo say d it was within the province of the Central Bank of Nigeria, to redesign the naira notes from time to time.
The former Central Bank governor made the statement while fielding questions on a local television programme.
Last month, the CBN governor announced that the 200, 500 and 1000 Naira notes would be redesigned.
“Anambra will respond as appropriate. Whatever circumstances that ride out from the central, the managerial authorities and physical authorities at the centre, whatever thing they decide and throw up and that is a national policy, be sure that Anambra will appropriately adjust and respond; so we have no problem with that,”he said.
He added, “By the way, in my own time, I got the naira redesigned. Just to make this point, I redesigned the N5, N10, N20, and N50 denominations and we got them in polymer; at least N5, N10, and N20.
“So it is not anything new. And I also introduced the N1000 note. Certainly, it is within the province of the Central Bank to redesign notes from time to time. It might be for security features, it might be for some other considerations. I am not here to speculate on the substance of their policies,” Soludo concluded.
