Governor Soludo Mourns Renowned Highlife Legend, Mike Ejeagha

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of iconic Nigerian highlife musician, Chief Mike Ejeagha, who died on Saturday at the age of 95.

In a condolence message issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo praised Chief Ejeagha as a philosophical musician and a prominent cultural ambassador, highlighting his role as a guardian of Igbo oral traditions.

“Ejeagha’s music, renowned for its distinctive fusion of highlife rhythms and powerful storytelling, resonated deeply across Nigeria, affirming the importance of Igbo linguistic expression.”

The Governor fondly recalled Ejeagha’s timeless works, particularly the unforgettable “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo,” emphasizing how the late artist not only provided entertainment but also educated listeners, thereby preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural legacy and celebrating the vibrancy of Igbo folklore.

As a prolific figure in highlife music, Chief Ejeagha created a sound that encapsulated the essence of the Nigerian experience, bridging generational divides throughout his extensive career, which has solidified his status as a national treasure.”

Governor Soludo mourns the loss of Chief Mike Ejeagha, whose melodies have brought joy, hope, and unity to many Nigerians.

He extends heartfelt condolences to Ejeagha’s family during this challenging time, wishing them solace as they navigate their grief.

“May his soul rest in peace,” the statement added.
