The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo has assured Corps members serving in the state of prompt payment of their state NYSC allowance.
He also commended the state coordinator and her management team for their tireless efforts.
Governor Soludo made the assertion on Tuesday, at the formal opening of the 2023 batch ‘C’ stream ll orientation course for corps members deployed to Anambra State at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC unity orientation permanent camp, Umuawulu Mbaukwu Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Speaking while welcoming corps members from the six geo political zones of the country and FCT, the governor, represented by the Chairman NYSC state governing board and Commissioner for Youth development, Anambra State, Honourable Patrick Aghamba, said he celebrated them because they are seen in virtually every community serving the nation and interacting with all Nigerians irrespective of their religious, political, social or tribal backgrounds, thereby fostering national unity and integration.
“My dear compatriots, having been deployed to this state, my administration shall treat you as critical national assets by ensuring the provision of your welfare needs. In the same vein, adequate security for all shall be my topmost priority. Already, security agencies who are always working in synergy are constantly on ground to protect you in and around your lodges, places of primary assignments and host communities.”
While appreciating the State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma and her management team, Soludo said, “they have mapped out strategies to assist the state government in realizing accelerated grassroots development through the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, rural infrastructural development, rapid agricultural development and grassroots sensitization in sanitation. My administration shall continue to support her to succeed in the realization of the set objective.”
He also appreciated the non-NYSC officials for their collaboration and symbiotic relationship with the scheme.
Governor Soludo further paid tribute to the founding fathers of NYSC scheme, particularly retired General Yakubu Gowon, for their foresight in establishing this noble scheme.
Presenting his address, the Commissioner for Youth development, represented by Comrade Chinedu Vincent Okpala, urged the corps members to develop interest in the study of igbo language as the knowledge will definitely assist them in navigating their way throughout the service year.
Aghamba stated that Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), remains one of the most important trainings on Anambra NYSC camp.
He also told them to make up their minds to tap into SAED by learning and perfecting a few skills to get some competitive advantages.
“Similarly, One Youth, Two Skills programme for youth development by the State Government under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Development is a sure way to empower you towards a meaningful and impactful livelihood. Ensure you subscribe to it and reap bountiful harvest thereof,” Aghamba said.
Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, state coordinator NYSC Anambra State informed that a total number of 2,005 corps members, comprising 1,029 males and 976 females have been registered and were already adjusting to camp life and activities.
She said, “We have accommodation for 4,000 corps members and we have the capacity of taking care of large number.
“At the moment, we have a total of 2005, which may likely increase with those whose husbands are resident in the State.”
Describing the batch of corps members as one of the best in recent times, Iruma revealed that no issues of misdemeanor and misconduct had been recorded since their arrival, urging them to keep up with the spirit.
“Since their arrival, they’ve exhibited high level of discipline, they’re amenable to training and development. They listen and adhere to instructions meticulously.
“Besides, we’ve not had issues with them. We have a camp court which dispenses with matters of misdemeanor, misconduct and the likes. Nothing of such had come to the camp court.
“There are lots of indication that these ones are well behaved and we are proud of them.”
