Governor Soludo urges NEMA to establish office in Anambra state

Anambra state Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to establish its office in Anambra in view of the magnitude of disasters being experienced in the State.

 

Speaking on a radio and television interactive session with the people of Anambra State titled “a chat with Mr. Governor”, he regretted that many houses in Anambra State have been caved in by gully erosion while many farmlands have been lost to it, noting that at present, the ongoing deluge that hit some parts of the country have forced many people out of their various homes and killed thousands of people.

 

The Governor who disclosed that Anambra State government will engage the federal government on discussions that will bring succor to those affected by the deluge, also commended some affluent individuals of the State who sent relief materials to those at the internally displaced persons’ camps in different parts of the State.

 

Governor Soludo called on the federal government to always plan for emergencies and canvassed for building of more dams in Nigeria so as to contain the volume of water whenever the Republic of Cameroon releases water from its dam.

 

He said that the government of Anambra State will continue to visit those at internally displaced persons’ camps with relief materials and food items in order to give them hope.

 

He disclosed that the State government will soon open an emergency account where the people especially the philanthropists can donate money for the upkeep of those affected by the deluge whenever they go back to their various communities.
