Ahead of the March 26 National Convention of All Progressives Congress (APC), Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has cautioned members against making inflammatory statements that would overheat the polity.
Gov. Sule made the call in Lafia at the inauguration of the state working committee of APC in the state.
According to the governor, the two formal governors of the state, Abdullahi Adamu and Umaru Al-Makura, who are vying for the party’s National Chairmanship seat, are eminently qualified and can lead the party to success in 2023.
The governor said all of them are well-respected leaders of the party in the state, and the state would support any of them that emerges as the National Chairman.
Gov. Sule also advised party members and those contesting for various positions to put the party’s interest against any personal interest.
He explained that the position is transitional, as anyone holding positions today would one day leave for a new set to come in whether or not they like it.
“Do not destroy the party today simply because you think you cannot get what you are looking for.
“Anyone who does things to destroy the party because he or she cannot realise his ambition is not a party man and a democrat,” the governor noted.
Gov. Sule also used the medium and expressed gratitude to officials of the party and other stakeholders in the state for their support before, during, and after the recent visit by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Therefore, he urged the newly inaugurated officials to settle down and mobilise the people toward the party’s success in the 2023 general elections.
Similarly, Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Balarebe-Abdullahi, lauded the governor for his leadership in the last three years.
The Speaker said the wards, Local Government Areas, and state congress of the party were rancour-free because of the leadership provided by the governor.
On behalf of the assembly, he assured the governor and the party of the continued support for the party’s success in all future elections.
Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, State APC Chairman, John Mamman, expressed gratitude to the governor and other stakeholders for their unwavering support and promised to operate an open-door policy.
The APC Chairman promised that the party’s leadership would lobby other states to give Nasarawa State the slot for the National Chairmanship seat.
